Healthy & Thriving Places Summit

Over the course of two days, we brought together more than 60 community leaders, champions, and supporters to dream big about the future of Klamath County. Through the course of eight hours and seven activities, we were able to:

  • Celebrate the strengths of our region such as the natural beauty, making of close-knit neighborhoods, entrepreneurial spirit, and deepening our sense of belonging.

  • Took stock of what resources we already have such as blighted housing, land, and programming.

  • Discussed what makes Klamath truly home – people who care, places to gather, local businesses, cultural and natural assets, and a willingness to work together.

  • Identified gaps and opportunities such as shortening community gaps, making sure everyone feels included, increasing the number and types of activities and jobs so people stay and thrive here, strengthening local infrastructure, enhancing economic vitality, and building on the natural environment.

The Healthy & Thriving Places Summit may be over, but the conversation hasn’t stopped yet. With the help of Happy Cities, the consultants which helped in leading the conversation, Healthy Klamath plans to launch a robust action plan heading into 2026 which will be available via healthyklamath.com

Life doesn’t wait for an appointment.

3 out of 4 suicides are men.

Only 1 in 4 reach out for help.

Most feel pressure to “man up” instead of speak up.

We need to change that.

Check in on your mates.

Talk about the heavy stuff.

Listen without fixing.

BTS Rides Are Free During the Government Shutdown — Because Community Comes First

In challenging times, our community stands stronger together.

In times of uncertainty, community matters most.

That’s why Basin Transit Service (BTS) is temporarily suspending all transit fares — including BTS fixed routes, Basin Lift, and the Klamath Basin Senior Center’s demand-response services.

This isn’t just about helping riders — it’s about helping the entire Klamath Basin community.

When seniors can reach healthcare, families can access groceries, and workers can get to their jobs safely and affordably, our whole community grows stronger, more connected, and more resilient.

Our plan:

A new BTS stop at the Local Food Bank, only minutes from Altamont Station, to make food access easier than ever.

Partnerships with the Local Food Bank and DHS Self-Sufficiency to bring support directly where it’s needed most.

By temporarily removing fares, BTS is ensuring that no one is left behind — because public transit isn’t just about getting from place to place; it’s about keeping our community moving forward, together.

Celebrate Veteran's Day out on the trail and work alongside Siskiyou Mountain Club staff in the Fremont-Winema National Forest!

Come work with us for one day, two days, or the whole long weekend. We need your help clearing downed logs and debris along winter trails near the Sky Lakes Wilderness.

We'll establish camp at the trailhead and have access to a vault toilet, a warming shelter, and plenty of options for dispersed camping.

Email trevor@siskiyoumountainclub.org to get on the list.

You don't need trail-work experience as the work is not technical. We will have the tools and equipment you'll need for a successful trip but you'll need sturdy boots, gloves, long pants, and long sleeve clothing.

Save on gas and hop in our shuttle vehicle which will depart from Gold Hill, OR at 7:00am on Saturday morning. We will have you back by 6pm on Tuesday.

Alternatively you can meet up along the way to drive in together, or you can meet us at the trailhead.

We are back at it again, with Polar Paddle (formerly called Polar Plunge), taking place this winter on Friday, January 9th, at 5:30-7:30pm. This year, we are seeing who will join us and test their grit by building a raft and daring to paddle across 76-78 degree water in the middle of winter! We have three new challenges to see what our participants are made of.

All proceeds help fund a new ADA Chairlift and 2 shade structures. Dive in— make a real impact in our community.

Easy Manicotti

Tender pasta loaded with creamy cheeses, fresh herbs and tangy tomato sauce.

Ingredients

1 package (8 ounces) manicotti shells (14 shells)

1 egg

1 carton (15 ounces) low-fat ricotta or cottage cheese

6 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (about 1 ½ cups)

½ cup minced fresh parsley or 3 Tablespoons dried parsley

¼ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon garlic powder or 2 cloves garlic, minced

1 jar (24 to 26 ounces) pasta sauce (3 cups)

Directions

Wash hands with soap and water.

Rinse fresh herbs under running water before preparing.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Cook pasta according to package directions and drain.

While pasta is cooking, beat egg in medium bowl. Add ricotta or cottage cheese, mozzarella cheese, parsley, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning and garlic powder. Mix well.

Pour a little of the pasta sauce in the bottom of a rectangular baking dish to prevent pasta from sticking.

Stuff shells with filling (about 2 to 3 rounded teaspoons per shell). Arrange stuffed shells in baking dish. Pour remaining sauce evenly over pasta.

Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until bubbly throughout.

Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours.

Notes

Add grated parmesan cheese to the filling mixture.

Add your favorite herbs to the sauce for more flavor.
